A few weeks ago, I did a morning devotion on my Youversion app called “My One Word.” I had previously heard of the concept from my daughter’s mother-in-law, Neloa, who had told us of her experience with this idea by Pastor Mike Ashcroft, and how she had enjoyed it.
Pastor Ashcroft’s concept of this came from thoughts of writing New Year’s Resolutions and how those good intentions usually end up failing. Many people become overwhelmed with a mounting list of near impossibilities, or for one reason or another keep their resolutions for a few weeks, and then little by little, discard them. He decided he would focus on One word for the entire year, and he encourages others to do so as well. You can find more about this here.
After reading the “My One Word” devotion, I took some time in prayer and then chose my own word: Reveal.
The word “Reveal” was not my first choice, but became the one I chose after considering what I needed in my life most right now. Any kind of revelation from God about my walk with Him, or how to improve myself, and my relationship with Him, would be the first place to start. Revelation, I felt, would not only be revealing, but it would also be “refreshing.”
“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” James 4:8
“Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.” Psalm 119:18
We could all benefit from more intimacy, and insight, with God no matter which word you choose.
This has become my Godspiration for 2018, and I’m putting it out there so that I may be held accountable.
If this is something that interests you, choose your own “My One Word,” and take this challenge with me. We may be able to lift each other up for a better 2018 for all of us.
