There is Joy in the Journey

On days when you are feeling down and discouraged remind yourself that there is joy in the journey.  Tragedies, disappointments, illness, and suffering can keep us in a state of sadness.  Unfortunately, there will be times of suffering in our lives.  We will have things that will knock us down.  We do not get a pass on it.

 

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” James 1:2-3

 

God’s Word prepares us for these things.  Daily we go to His Word and jump into the pool of hope and joy that he shares with us to help guard our hearts against the trials to come.  Though we don’t like them, trials help us to lean on God.  Trials help us to persevere.

 

We may become disheartened and wonder why we have to go through what we are going through.  We long to be rid of suffering and get on to the good stuff.  God’s Word shows us what to think about on the trial filled days…

 

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthythink about such things.”  Philippians 4:8

 

Would you endure the pain of childbirth to experience the joy of having children?  Would you endure the pain from a breakup, to find your true love?  Would you endure the pain from mistakes to learn valuable and life-altering lessons?

There is both pain and joy in the journey…but God’s Word says in the verse above, “to think about such things.”  The things of truth, nobleness, righteousness, purity, loveliness, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy things.  The things we should fill our minds with… the joyful things in life.

It is about God’s thoughts and His perspectives. Embracing God and His Word will help us to endure the pain and love the journey. Embrace it.  Relish it.  All of it. There is joy in the Lord, and there is joy in the journey if we look at it God’s way.

    As the mom of seven, I can say I would go through the pain of childbirth to experience the joy of having children. 😉 But if I had been given a choice in the matter, we would not have lost our son when he was 25. That said, God has shown Himself over and over again to be the God of All Comfort, for His own glory and for our best. I doubt if I will ever know why we had to lose James, but I am so thankful I can leave that with the Lord, and trust Him.

      Hi Willena, I’m so sorry about your son. I wish I could say, honestly that I understand…I don’t. I don’t think anyone would understand unless they had been through that like God himself. I would also go through the pain of childbirth for my children… and the grandchildren, the added benefits. I agree that God brings comfort in times of need, and we are most blessed to receive it at any time. Hugs to you and much love in Christ… thanks for reading and commenting.
